"Each book may be read separately to gain insight from the important message of each individual book, but the full impact of the insights revealed will be more intense and meaningful with a reading of all five.

Having read all of James’ books, I can sincerely recommend the total body of James’ ten-year search for wholeness and balance in his own life and his desire to share his insights.

Stratagem, as with the previous books, combines the wisdom of the past with an analysis of the present by an accomplished martial arts expert.

In a feat of heroic research, author Robert James calls upon the experiences and knowledge of authority from the classical age to the 21st century, from Marcus Aurelius to Jack Dempsey.

These voices from the past were spoken by individuals who had placed their minds and bodies in sacrifice to a cause, to an ideal, to an intense belief that they were willing to die for.

These are men who must be listened to. These are individuals, some of whom who have given their lives in the name of their beliefs.

James has been painstakingly accurate in letting us hear, instead, the voices of those who have given their lives for what was vital to them (and ultimately important to the reader), or to the men of ideas who suffered ridicule and ignominy for their beliefs, truths which we now take for granted.

I say without reservation that James’ books can be a life-changing experience if read with discernment.

His books are excellent manuals for training oneself in a personal defense against an external enemy".
